What makes latex an empowering choice for plus-size people?

Latex has a unique ability to make everyone who wears it feel amazing. Before we even consider its ability to empower the wearer, latex provides an unparalleled sensory experience that other materials can’t imitate.

When wearing latex, size truly doesn’t matter.

How to feel confident as a plus-size person

It’s a shame we’re still having this conversation, but sadly, the world is not always kind to people’s bodies.

Feeling confident in your body might feel aeons away when starting from scratch.

It can be beneficial to begin by thinking about your body neutrally. Let go of how your body looks, and think about it as a functional tool that safely carries you through each day.

Your body keeps you breathing, walking, and thinking. It digests the food you eat, it pumps blood through your body, it lets you cry when you need to, and laugh at the jokes your friends tell.

Your body is amazing, and on the path to feeling confident in it, it’s good to practice gratitude for all it does for you. Confidence will soon come.

While being told to “think positively” can feel irritating and reductive, the effectiveness of challenging negative thoughts cannot be underestimated. When negative thoughts arise, instead of letting them marinate and grow, try to replace them with neutral or positive statements or affirmations.

Being mindful of the social media content you’re consuming can also aid in your journey to body confidence. Curate your “following” list carefully, ensuring it includes people who lift you up. If you’re following influencers who look completely different to you, consider unfollowing or muting them. Instead, seek out people with similar body shapes to you who make you feel represented and seen online. Less screen time altogether is never a bad idea, either.

So, let’s talk about latex plus-size clothing. Depending on where you are in your pursuit of body confidence, latex might feel like an empowering next step or a total nightmare.

At Westward Bound, we’re not here to force a latex dress upon anyone. We’re here to make sure those who want to dress in latex look and feel incredible doing it. That’s why we offer bespoke latex clothing and tailoring services to ensure you get the perfect fit, regardless of shape or size.

Does latex shape your body?

Because latex is a high-quality, natural material, it has a slinky, figure-hugging effect. Latex is flattering on everybody, thanks to its ability to stretch and conform to your body shape. It can emphasise curves, muscles and contouring in ways few fabrics can.

This shaping quality often provides a renewed sense of confidence in latex wearers. The figure-hugging nature allows garments to feel comfortable while enhancing the body’s natural form and facilitating confidence in your own skin.

Is latex clothing flattering?

Latex is very flattering when worn correctly. By that, we mean understanding how to put on latex garments, preparing the body, and, most importantly, choosing the correct size.

The figure-hugging nature of latex means it flatters every shape, especially curves, but if you’ve struggled to get it on properly and its not sitting quite right, a latex garment could look unusual. Choosing a size that is too big or small can also make a latex garment look strange and feel uncomfortable, which in turn won’t make you feel your best. Gina gets it right.

Fear not, Westward Bound has the answers to these worries and more.

How to choose the right latex clothing for your body shape?

Finding the right garment for your body shape all comes down to measurements.

Of course, some pieces lend themselves to a certain body shape more than others, but this is true of all sizes.

Curvy shapes might prefer a more fitted piece to emphasise their best assets, while a more athletic or rectangular frame might opt for something to enhance their muscles. There is no hard and fast rule for what looks good on each body type, but finding the right size and fit goes a long way to making you look and feel your very best.

Our sizing and measuring guide will help you find the perfect fit for your garment, whether for a standard size or a bespoke tailored piece.

At Westward Bound, we offer two distinct choices within our made-for-you collection. Follow the measurement guide to ensure you get the best fit. Depending on the garment, you may need to take up to 24 different measurements. It’s worth taking the time to do this properly, as it makes all the difference to the fit of your piece. You may want to enlist the help of a friend or partner, or seek professional measurement at a dress shop or tailor’s.

Standard size

We cut and make the garment for you in accordance with the preordained size chart. Choose the size closest to your body measurements.

Bespoke – tailored for you

Using your individual measurements, we make a garment designed specifically for you. This ensures optimum fit.

Each and every Westward Bound garment is individually cut and made by hand at our workshop in Plymouth, Devon, UK.

How do you measure for a plus-size latex corset?

Our latex corsets look fabulous on plus-size bodies. To measure for our Regina Zip-Front Pinstripe Latex Overbust Corset, you will need to take five measurements: over bust, bust, under bust, waist and hips. You can see exactly where to measure yourself using our size guide to ensure the best fit.

Can latex spats be custom-made for plus-size or wide calves?

All items in our collection can be custom-made to suit your measurements, including our spats and socks. We always recommend a custom-made option as it will provide the best fit tailored for you. Whether you are plus-size or have wider calves, a bespoke pair of latex spats or socks will ensure a comfortable and flattering fit.

What dress style looks best on plus size?

If you want to play to your shape, the best dress styles for plus-size bodies are usually A-line, skater and flared dresses. Our Aurora Swing Dress and Maidservant Uniform Dress especially look great on plus-size bodies, beautifully accentuating curves with pleating that ensures comfort.
