Why do people wear latex to a festival?

Festivals are a unique opportunity to dress freely, lose inhibitions and have fun. Many people ignore everyday dress code constraints, ditching office attire for outfits that better represent their true selves.

Some opt to dowse themselves in glitter, while others embrace colour, painstakingly handmade costumes and outlandish accessories.

Latex has found itself in this category of expressive style, perfect for festivals and raves.

It offers a high-gloss look unmatched by other materials, catching the light in such a way that it naturally draws all attention. Latex clothing comes in such a fantastic range of styles, from pieces that bare all to more modest designs so everyone can feel comfortable and confident.

Of course, the experience of wearing latex makes it so attractive. The feel of latex on the skin is unmatched, hugging you in and enhancing all your best bits.

Why does wearing latex feel so good?

There are countless reasons why wearing latex feels amazing. From the feeling of wearing a material that was once forced underground to the fringes of society to knowing all eyes are on you.

For many people, the second skin effect draws them into the world of latex.

By its nature, latex is a tight material that clings to you, moves with you, and can be felt on the skin for as long as you wear it. This is described as the second skin effect.

The constant sensation of wearing latex sends touch receptors soaring, allowing you to feel more stimulated than in any other material. Latex intensifies touch and temperature sensations, making you extra sensitive to cold and heat.

Latex is for those who love to ignite the senses.

How to stop sweating in latex

If you plan on wearing latex to a festival, be prepared to sweat. It is a natural process, and there isn’t much you can do to stop it. However, there are some tips we can share to make it more manageable.

  • Talc up. A layer of talc will make it easier to get into your latex and stop you from getting sweaty as quickly.
  • Stay hydrated. You lose a lot of moisture when you sweat, so replenish your body by drinking plenty of water,
  • Seek shade. Staying out of the sun is a challenge at a festival, but try and seek shaded areas. Music festivals often have smaller tents that make a good retreat when the temperature rises.
  • Don’t worry. Sweating in latex can make it more comfortable to wear as it can easily slip over your body. Although difficult, try not to feel conscious if you sweat in your latex. It’s only natural, and no one else will likely notice. The more you stress, the more you sweat, so try not to worry.
  • Take a break. If it all gets a bit much, take off your latex and let your body breathe.

How latex stands out

Latex will catch the eye no matter where you wear it. The origins of latex lie in fetish communities, part of the rich tapestry of latex history. Naturally, this connotation is made by people witnessing latex worn in public, so it’s considered a brave, bold outfit choice.

Latex also has a natural shine that always turns heads. Your latex garment will gleam beautifully at a sunny festival, and you’ll be the centre of attention.

Latex favourites for festivals and raves

There is much to consider when choosing what latex garment to wear to a festival. The weather is obvious, but you also must consider comfort and practicality. Festivals and raves are long days, and even the most prolific latex wearers can become uncomfortable after a while.

One of our sleeveless tops is perfect for first-time festival-goers. You could pair it with a more breathable bottom half, like a skirt or shorts, to keep you feeling cool. Similarly, a pair of latex shorts can be worn with a looser top.

However you choose to style your festival latex, it’s important to remember that latex requires special care in the sun.

Latex care in summer

Latex is a special material; it looks and feels amazing and that’s why we love it. However, you must care for it to keep it looking its best.

Try and limit your time in direct sunlight. UV rays have a degrading effect on latex, causing it to become brittle and lose its colour. Try to seek shaded areas at festivals. Usually, there are tents and covered areas to take advantage of.

While you’re unlikely to be near chlorine at a festival, you might need to keep it in mind for future summer plans. Chlorine has a degrading effect on latex, causing discolouration, odour and diminishing the shine. If you take a dip in your latex garment, ensure you rinse it, with tepid clean water, thoroughly immediately afterwards.
