    Uniform Details as Contemporary Design

Westward Bound’s Uniform-Inspired Designs form a thematic collection united by the recognisable visual language of traditional uniforms. Stand collars, contrast piping, stripes, cuffs, buttons, aprons, epaulettes, headwear and sharply defined panels are interpreted through original latex fashion for women and men.

The collection is not based upon one historical uniform or profession. Instead, it draws design references from military, medical, service, nautical, monastic, office and formal dress, exploring how their familiar lines and details can be developed across contemporary garments.

Rather than reproducing traditional uniforms literally, Westward Bound uses these elements to shape proportion, establish contrast and give individual designs a clear graphic identity.

    Military-Inspired Design

Military influence forms one of the strongest strands within the collection. High collars, piping, stripes, decorative buttons, epaulettes and structured panel arrangements bring definition to jackets, shirts, dresses, catsuits, skirts, jeans and all-in-one designs.

Women’s garments interpret these references through close-fitting dresses, pencil skirts, catsuits, leotards and separates. Men’s designs apply the same visual language to shirts, jeans, leggings and all-in-one silhouettes, retaining the proportions and practical construction associated with each garment type.

The result is a varied group of designs connected through line, contrast and carefully positioned detail rather than through the reproduction of a particular military uniform.

    Medical & Service-Inspired Design

Medical-inspired designs use clean colour contrasts, aprons, caps, cross motifs and simple geometric detailing as their principal visual references. These elements appear across dresses, leotards, tops and coordinating accessories, with individual garments varying in neckline, sleeve length, hemline and construction.

Service-inspired pieces take a different direction through apron dresses, blouses, cuffs, frills and coordinated multi-piece designs. Some favour restrained lines and limited contrast, while others introduce layered details, shaped aprons and more decorative finishing.

Although these garments draw upon recognisable forms, their identity comes from original pattern development and contemporary latex construction rather than literal occupational dress.

    Nautical, Monastic & Formal References

Nautical influence appears through sailor-style stripes, neckwear, caps and coordinated men’s garments. These details provide a clear visual structure while adapting naturally to shirts, T-shirts, leggings, boxer shorts and accessories.

Monastic-inspired pieces use longer lines, headpieces and restrained colour contrasts to establish a markedly different silhouette. Office, clerical and formal-service references extend the collection further through collars, ties, button arrangements and simplified panel construction.

Together, these strands give Uniform-Inspired Designs considerable variety without losing the visual connections that hold the collection together.

    Women’s & Men’s Uniform-Inspired Clothing

Women’s designs include dresses, catsuits, leotards, jackets, blouses, tops, skirts, leggings, lingerie, hosiery and coordinating accessories. Dresses form the largest garment group, ranging from shorter and flared silhouettes to more structured, full-length and multi-piece designs.

The men’s selection includes long- and short-sleeved shirts, polo shirts, T-shirts, jeans, leggings, boxer shorts, all-in-one designs and accessories. Military, service and nautical references are particularly prominent, expressed through collars, piping, stripes, contrast panels and button detailing.

Accessories include aprons, hats, caps, stockings, gloves, mitts, ties and neckwear. Some are developed to coordinate with a specific garment, while others can carry a uniform-inspired detail across different designs.

Designed, Pattern-Cut & Handcrafted in England

Every piece is individually developed, pattern-cut, handcrafted and meticulously finished in our Plymouth workshop from natural rubber latex (NRL) sheeting.

Keeping design and manufacture in-house allows collars, panels, trims, fastenings and decorative details to be considered alongside fit and proportion throughout garment development. This integrated approach ensures that uniform references remain part of the construction rather than appearing as unrelated surface decoration.
